Island Capital is a single family office established by Jay Senerchia in 2002.
Through calendar 2015, in addition to its own public and private investment activities, Island Capital formed and managed partnerships to invest in institutional-quality private alternative-asset vehicles. Subequent to 2015, Mr. Senerchia's time has been dedicated exclusively to the pursuit and oversight of investments on behalf of Island Capital.
Since 2002, Mr. Senerchia has directed the activities of Island Capital.
From 1987-2001, Mr. Senerchia was a founding principal of MDT Advisers (“MDTA”), an institutional investment advisor. The principal client of MDTA during Mr. Senerchia’s tenure was Arthur D. Little Inc. (ADL), an international management-consulting firm based in Cambridge MA, which retained MDTA to manage its $1B corporate pension fund. One of Mr. Senerchia’s responsibilities in connection with the ADL pension fund was to increase the diversification of the portfolio by increasing the allocation to, and diversity of, what are known as “alternative assets”. (“Alternative assets” are asset-classes whose return-streams are uncorrelated with the return-streams from traditional asset-classes i.e. publicly-traded stocks and bonds. Alternative asset-classes include, for example, private equity, real estate, oil and gas, hedge funds and timberland.)
From 1982-1987, Jay was employed directly by ADL as an Investment Officer for the pension fund.
From 1977-1982, Jay worked as a certified public accountant (CPA) at Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC), with clients in the technology, banking and mutual fund industries.
Mr. Senerchia is a magna cum laude graduate of Boston University.
In addition to investing in funds managed by institutional investment-advisors, Mr. Senerchia has experience making direct investments across the various asset classes listed above. His real estate investment activities include acquisitions of both single family and multi-family residential properties, as well as medical office. Mr. Senerchia has acted as a principal in the purchase of thousands of acres of timberland in the northeast United States, and for the past 30 years, he has made direct investments in private companies. From 1986 through 1998, Mr. Senerchia was a member of the National Venture Capital Association. He has expertise in such diverse investment categories as litigation finance, search funds, and brownfield real estate.
Mr. Senerchia has served on the board of directors of Computer Controls Corp., Paradigm Cable, Current Analysis Inc., Wavetracer Inc, Balkin Cable Holdings and Ancora Capital.
